Miss Paquette's Grade One class is Discovering Africa!

Bukina Faso

For the next few weeks my grade one class will be learning about Africa. We will be locating the geographical region on the map so that we can always situate our learning. We will be looking at the various cultural aspects of this continent. We will do so through reading information based texts, watching short videos and looking at illustrations and pictures.

Cultural aspects will be explored such as: values, beliefs, food, musical instruments, songs, climate, clothing, modes of transportations, technology, schools, marriage, religions, animals and many more. Students will compare and contrast  similarities and difference which can be found from our culture here in Quebec, to the one in Burkina Faso.

For children to have a more concrete touch with this Africa unit, we will be communicating with Dana who is presently on the continent of Africa in the country named Burkina Faso. He will have a direct insight of the daily lives that people have in Burkina Faso. He is presently submerged in this culture and will have interesting details which we all want to hear about.

Approximately once a week, I will be posting about four questions that my grade one students will want to ask Dana.
